The Whitstable Biennale is renowned for showcasing some of the most experimental new visual art in the UK, and this year is no exception. As part of this vibrant festival, Dot Kids founder and Art & Mindset Educator Julie Bevan, has been invited by The Whitstable Biennale to deliver three Art Workshops at the Horsebridge Arts Centre. Each offers a unique opportunity for children to engage with contemporary art in an engaging way. These workshops, designed for children aged 5-11, will not only inspire young minds but also give them the chance to see their own creations become part of the Biennale.
Slogan Art Workshop
Date & Time: 14:15-15:45, Saturday 2 June
Children will delve into the world of Bob and Roberta Smith (aka Patrick Brill). Known for his witty and thought-provoking slogans, which often highlights the importance of art education. This session will encourage children to create their own slogan art, which will be displayed around the town, giving them a sense of pride and visibility in the community.
Sound Art Workshop
Date & Time:16:00-17:30, Monday 4 June
The Sound Art Workshop, is inspired bySusan Philipsz, the first sound artist to win the Turner Prize in 2010. Philipsz's work is known for its emotional impact and use of the artist's own singing voice. In this workshop, children will record their own soundscapes, which will be played in the shelter on West Beach by the tennis courts. Parents and friends are welcome to join us towards the end of the session to experience the unique soundscape created by the children.
Organic Sculpture Workshop
Date & Time: 14:15-15:45, Saturday 9 June
The final workshop in this exciting series is the Organic Sculpture Workshop, drawing inspiration from the delicate, nature-inspired works of Christiane Löhr. Using materials gathered from the beach, children will create their own organic sculptures, exploring the movement and shadows they cast. This workshop offers a fantastic way for children to connect with nature and see everyday materials transformed into art.
All workshops will be held at the 1st Floor Hub, Horsebridge Arts Centre.
